FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
On this page, we have compiled questions and answers that may arise in everyday life regarding our MG Natural Cosmetics products. Our goal is to provide transparency and a personal perspective on these topics.
When should I use the Face Lotion and when the Cream?
During the summer months, the lighter, moisturizing Face Lotion is very popular, while in the colder season, the rich Cream provides ideal protection against the elements. You can also mix the Face Lotion and Cream in your hand as needed, depending on how you feel that day, to create a consistency that suits you best.
How do I correctly use MG Natural Cosmetics products in the morning?
In the morning, rinse your skin with cold water to remove water-soluble toxins. Then gently massage in the Cleanser and rinse it off with warm water. Spraying on the Tonic gives your skin an extra boost of moisture and a refreshing feeling. As day care, the soft Face Lotion keeps your skin smooth and supple. Alternatively, the Cream offers a soothing sensation and protects your skin from environmental influences.
How do I correctly use MG Natural Cosmetics products in the evening?
In the evening, if you have young, normal skin, you only need the Cleanser, which you rinse off thoroughly with plenty of water. If you have hard tap water, it is recommended to follow up with the appropriate Tonic. The Cleanser has a re-lipidizing effect and provides sufficient protection for the skin overnight. We recommend letting the skin "breathe" at night, allowing sweat and metabolic waste to reach the surface without obstruction. This keeps your skin healthy and helps it return to its natural balance. If you have mature, demanding skin or if your skin feels tight and appears red in the morning, use one of our Face Lotions in the evening.
What should I do if the Cream is not rich enough for me?
Be sure to apply Tonic underneath your Cream and then massage in as much Cream as your skin can absorb. You can also apply a seed oil capsule underneath your day care. Simply place some Cream in the palm of your hand, add a seed oil capsule, mix them together, and apply to the skin. If you want to treat your skin to something special, use the capsules as a 28-day intensive treatment. After that, take a break and repeat the treatment 2–6 times a year, depending on your skin’s needs.
How do I properly use the seed oil capsules?
The seed oil capsules are made for external use and can be applied pure or under your daily care to the skin. They are also ideal for care after a long day in wind, sun, and/or cold. In this case, apply them pure to the skin after your evening cleansing.
Why is a cleanser necessary?
Throughout the day, the skin also eliminates waste products. These mix with dust and airborne particles. This mixture is not water-soluble and therefore needs to be emulsified and washed off with the Cleanser (cleansing milk).
Why is a tonic necessary?
Tonics (facial waters) contain many plant extracts that would not be stable in a water/oil mixture, such as in a cream. However, these plant extracts are essential for maintaining the skin's balance.
Which products should I use to care for sensitive skin around the eye area?
The EYE CARE Cream protects and nourishes the delicate skin around the eyes. In general, eye care should be applied at a distance of 2-3 mm away from the eyelashes.
I wear contact lenses. Which product should I use for the eye area?
For contact lens wearers, we recommend our Sensisana Avocado Eye Cream for caring for the delicate skin around the eyes. It contains a particularly high amount of avocado oil. Avocado oil has a lower tendency to spread than many other oils and therefore is less likely to get into the eyes. This way, the contact lenses do not float on an oily film.
Which products can be used for rosacea?
For rosacea, as little fat as possible should be used. In practice, the SHEABUTTER line has proven effective, with the lotion being preferred over the cream. However, in very cold weather (outdoors in winter), the cream should be applied to protect the skin.
The SALVIA Mask has also proven effective here, as it soothes and clarifies inflammation and supports the skin’s natural defense system. Additionally, the Salvia Mask absorbs toxins from the skin.
What is the difference between a balm and a cream?
Balms are completely water-free, meaning they are not emulsions of oily and watery components.
What is the difference between a Cream and a Face Lotion?
The Cream is a water-in-oil emulsion, while the Face Lotion is an oil-in-water emulsion.
Water-in-oil emulsion (W/O emulsion):
In a water-in-oil emulsion, water is dispersed in small droplets within the oil. The oil forms the outer phase, while the water is the inner phase.
These emulsions feel richer and heavier on the skin because the oil content dominates. They form a protective film on the skin that helps lock in moisture and strengthen the skin barrier.
Oil-in-water emulsion (O/W emulsion):
In an oil-in-water emulsion, small oil droplets are dispersed in water. Here, water is the outer phase, and the oil is enclosed in the inner phase.
These emulsions are lighter, absorb faster, and leave less greasy residue on the skin. They provide moisture and feel pleasantly cooling.
Why are the consistencies of the creams and masks so heavy or thick?
The main skin-compatible ingredient in the creams and masks is wool fat (Lanolin). This thick substance is an excellent emulsifier with water-absorbing properties. It is very similar to our body’s own lipids, making it highly tolerable and effective at binding moisture in the skin. It can be used for conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and extremely dry skin. For this reason, the creams should be used sparingly and always applied to pre-moistened skin, ideally with a tonic. Creams and lotions can also be mixed to suit any individual skin need.
The HAPPY AGING line is ideally suited for skin that is heavily affected by free radicals, such as for “sun worshippers,” taxi drivers, smokers, etc. The GINSENG line is intended for skin with a strong need for regeneration, for example after serious illnesses, medication use, or psychological conditions. Most consumers are strongly influenced by their sense of smell, so it is also advisable to smell a product to see if the fragrance appeals to you.
What is the difference between the Happy Aging Line and the Ginseng Line?
Which product line can be used in case of a fragrance allergy?
The SHEABUTTER line is free from essential oils, herbal extracts, and bee products. Additionally, the BABY & KIDS line is also free from essential oils.
Can the products cause contact allergies?
Many people mistakenly assume that natural products cannot cause allergies. However, skin reactions to plant-based creams are possible due to ingredients like aloe vera as well as members of the aster family like calendula or chamomile. In case of allergies, we recommend using the
If you are allergic to propolis, please do not use the PROPOLIS Cream In case of a beeswax allergy, all lines can be used except for the creams and masks, as the Shea Butter Cream does not contain beeswax. However, it should be clarified whether the allergy is to beeswax itself or only to refined beeswax. Can I use Martina Gebhardt Natural Cosmetics if I am allergic to propolis or beeswax?
Can the product lines be combined with each other?
Our natural cosmetics lines can be combined sensibly with each other. This means that, for example, if the Cream runs out but Cleanser and Tonic are still available, you can switch to a different cream. Our individual products can be wonderfully complemented by our system care lines. Cleanser and Tonic from the HAPPY AGING Line go well with the NEROLI Cream. The Cleanser and Tonic from the SHEABUTTER Line complement the ALOE VERA Cream and ALOE VERA Face Lotion. The SALVIA Line can be complemented with the PROPOLIS Cream. Depending on age, both the HAPPY AGING Line and the ROSE Line suit the SUMMER TIME Line. The MELISSA Cream can be combined with the ROSE Line or the YOUNG & ACTIVE Line.
How long is the shelf life of the products after opening?
The product guarantee after opening is three months, provided the expiration date is still valid, as we do not use preservatives. Oil-in-water emulsions (Face Lotions) should also be used within three months; creams (water-in-oil emulsions) usually last longer, and balms (water-free products) are always good for at least six months or longer. Body oils have a shelf life of 4 months after opening. All tonics have a shelf life of 24 months, except for the Sheabutter Tonic, which lasts 18 months. In any case, tonics should be used up by their expiration date after opening.
What do you recommend as sun protection?
Unfortunately, it is not possible for us to produce sun care products with a sun protection factor (SPF) above SPF 6 using natural ingredients. Therefore, we are not allowed to market products that contain natural sun protection as sunscreen or sun care products. Nevertheless, products containing ingredients such as sea buckthorn oil or carrot oil do provide natural sun protection. Products that contain natural sun protection include ALOE VERA Cream and Face Lotion, HAPPY AGING Cream and Face Lotion, PROPOLIS Cream, NEROLI Cream, and GINSENG Cream.
Which products have a sun protection factor?
We only offer Demeter-certified products with purely natural ingredients. We do not add reflective nanoparticles to increase the sun protection factor.
For several years now, we have had a Summer Time series. This achieves a maximum sun protection factor of about 6 using only natural ingredients. The series is suitable for preparing your skin for sun exposure, as it stimulates the body's natural melanin production and thus reduces light sensitivity. Additionally, the included ingredients have regenerating and moisturizing effects. Particularly notable are the ingredients Kukui nut oil and Jerusalem artichoke flower and root extracts. From this series, you will find a Cream, Face & Body Lotion, Face & Body Aftersun, and Body Oil.
Should I put my cream in the refrigerator during summer?
Please do not store our products in your refrigerator, as condensation can form inside the lid, which could promote microbial growth.
Why are creams and face lotions not white?
We generally use only natural oils and waxes. These are never pure white but always have their own color nuances. Even pure bee honey is never white; it always has a yellowish tone.
Why is my cream liquid / more liquid than usual?
We do not use stabilizers or standardized raw materials. Our creams are emulsified with lanolin, beeswax, and olive oil. The C16 fatty acids in olive oil play an important role in the emulsifying ability of the oils. These fatty acids also vary from batch to batch. We use pure Demeter olive oil, not triglycerides derived from it (as some other companies do). The oils and waxes we use also depend on climate and origin. We can never guarantee that one batch of rose cream behaves exactly like the next batch. This is the difference between completely natural creams and conventional standardized creams.
What is the pH value of the products?
Our products have an ideal pH value of 6-7, which helps the skin maintain its natural acid mantle.
Does MG Naturkosmetik offer vegan products or a vegan line?
Except for the creams, masks, and balms, all products are vegan. To achieve the desired fat/oil content in a care product, you can add a small amount of oil or an oil capsule to the face lotions.
Which products are comedogenic?
None of the MG Naturkosmetik products contain comedogenic ingredients (usually mineral oils, silicones, parabens, PPGs, PEGs, talc). Comedogenic substances are suspected of causing pimples and skin blemishes, but this is not necessarily the case. Everyone reacts individually to these substances. However, our SensiSana products contain high amounts of spagyric essences, which, unlike comedogenic ingredients, do not clog the skin but help to detoxify the skin and transport already deposited toxins outwards.
What does it mean if my cream's texture has small crystals? Can I still use it?
If our products are stored too cold, certain ingredients, such as honey in the LIP Balm, can form crystals. Therefore, we generally recommend storing our products at a temperature between 4 °C and 23 °C. The formation of crystals does not affect the quality of the products.
What is cetyl alcohol? And why is it used?
Cetyl alcohol stabilizes the products as a natural consistency agent and emulsifier. It is recommended by the strict guidelines of certified natural cosmetics. The so-called cetyl alcohol is a fatty alcohol derived from coconut fat extract.
Why don’t you use glycerin in your products?
In very dry air environments (e.g., in winter or with strong heating), glycerin can attempt to draw moisture from the deeper layers of the skin to the surface if there is not enough moisture in the air. This can theoretically lead to a feeling of dryness. In very high concentrations (e.g., over 10–15%), it can leave a slightly “sticky” feeling on the skin and possibly cause an uncomfortable tight sensation.
What is lanolin? And why do we use this ingredient?
Lanolin is the INCI name for wool wax, and it can be produced in different ways. We use pure wool fat, also known as Adeps Lanae, which is washed from sheep's wool. Wool fat is an excellent emulsifier with water-absorbing properties. It is very similar to the fats naturally found in our bodies, making it highly tolerable and effective at binding moisture in the skin. We use the only globally bio-certified lanolin available on the market. Our wool wax is technically purified, meaning it is cleaned without the addition of chemicals like hexane.

Do MG Naturkosmetik products contain preservatives?
We use self-stabilizing raw materials and natural active ingredients such as essential oils for preservation. These ingredients have antiviral and antibacterial effects. Our opal glass packaging is UV-opaque, which also helps to stabilize the products. Synthetic preservatives such as parabens, PPGs (propylene glycol), and PEGs (polyethylene glycol) are not used in our products.
What is Vitamin E? And why do you use this ingredient?
Vitamin E is derived from sunflowers and has anti-inflammatory, highly antioxidant, and smoothing properties. It also acts as a natural sunscreen and a natural preservative.
Why were gold and silver removed from the ingredients?
Our formulations have not changed in the last 4 years. Only the spagyric gold and silver have been omitted since January 2025. According to the new cosmetics regulation, these ingredients are no longer allowed in cosmetics within the EU.
Do our peeling products contain plastic particles?
No. We use natural, finely ground olive pit granules as the peeling agent.
What is SensiSana and what does it stand for?
SensiSana Natural Cosmetics is a highly subtle spagyric cosmetics line. A high percentage of spagyric essences from our own production enrich the valuable raw materials, 95% of which are from controlled organic cultivation.
Can I combine Martina Gebhardt and SensiSana?
In our experience, the two brands can be combined. However, they should remain pure products, meaning the cleanser should be from one brand, and the tonic and cream—which are applied and mixed on the skin consecutively—should be from the same brand. The same applies for cream and lotion if they are mixed for morning care.
How do I use the SensiSana Camellia Seed Oil?
SensiSana Camellia Seed Oil Capsules – Camellia oleifera is a very high-quality oil. Due to its special fatty acid structure, it penetrates the skin quickly and deeply like water, leaving a velvety, soft skin feeling. The oil has the property of forming a buffer against irritation. Especially for sensitive skin, it provides a pleasant, light protective shield between the skin surface and the aggressive environment.
The camellia seed oil is applied after the tonic on still damp skin, i.e., before or alternatively to lotion or cream.
Why are the ingredients not in Demeter quality?
There are some valuable plant oils on the market that are either not available at all or only in very small quantities in Demeter quality. For example, consider the argan tree, which was planted hundreds of years ago, long before there were Demeter regulations regarding soil quality, seed material, and fertilization. Although the cold-pressed argan oil is 100% pure and valuable, it cannot meet the Demeter certification standards. This also applies to other ancient tree species such as the shea butter or baobab trees. The same applies to kukui nut oil. However, we do not want to forgo these plant-based active ingredients and have therefore included them in the SensiSana products.
Is there a special anti-aging product in the series?
The CAMELLIA series is especially moisturizing, smoothing, revitalizing, and regenerating. Complementing this are the various face oil capsules, especially the evening primrose oil capsules, which help counteract premature wrinkle formation and support skin regeneration.
How do I completely empty the lotion?
This is a physical issue: pumping creates a cone around the suction tube, where solid components of the cream can stick. It is best to store the lotion upside down after use, for example in a suitable container, and unscrew the dispenser for application.
Why does the spray nozzle of the tonic get clogged?
Our tonics contain plant tinctures or tea extracts and essential oils. These contain various tannins and resins. Our tonics contain a maximum of 6% alcohol. At such a low alcohol content, the essential oil is not completely dissolved, and a solubilizer would actually need to be added. However, this would not comply with Demeter guidelines. A milky cloudiness occurs due to solutions of resins in ethanol. Unfortunately, we have not yet succeeded in avoiding resins and crystalline components through the selection of essential oils. During use or after prolonged storage, these can cause valve blockages in the spray nozzles.
What material are the jars/containers made of?
Our containers (bottles and jars) are made of opal glass. As a specialty product par excellence, opal glass combines all advantages:
- 3 times more resistant to mechanical stress than other materials on the market.
- 100% hygienic, permanently resistant to scratches.
- Excellent thermal resistance (the material withstands heat shocks of 135°C and therefore safely endures hot air sterilization. No additives are needed).
- This environmentally friendly glass is 100% recyclable in green glass containers. Glass recycling protects the environment. Using one ton of recycled glass saves over 300 kg of CO2.

How does spagyry work?
Why does MG Naturkosmetik use spagyric essences as an ingredient?
Spagyric essences are a method of preparing medicinal remedies that has been known for several thousand years. The goal is that the healing herbs contained in the cosmetics, through the various processing stages, transfer the information contained within them to the user.
